  1. What your son actually needs is TRAVEL INSURANCE. This will cover him for medical needs such as hospital or medications and in the terrible case death and the deporting of the body back home. Loss of any travel documents. Damage to his property (luggage etc). Some insure hire cars as well.

    Do some looking around and check what they cover. It will cost around $200 but is worth every cent.

    All your normal insurance companies offer this as well as travel agents but be warned the agents are expensive.

  2. What country are you from?

    Australia has reciprocal health care agreeements with:

        *  New Zealand

        * The United Kingdom

        * The Republic of Ireland

        * Sweden

        * The Netherlands

        * Finland

        * Italy

        * Malta

        * Norway

    Which allow residents of those countries the same level of free health services that are available to Australians.

    I don't know if there are any special provisions for holders of longer visas. http://www.immi.gov.au/ should give you more information, or an address to contact.

  3. Well miss, if he's on a temporary visa, whether a working holiday or a skilled visa, he will not be entitled to receive public health care (Medicare) or any other social security benefits.

    But a permanent skilled visa. Permanent resident visa holders have the right to live and work in Australia. As a permanent resident visa holder, you are entitled to receive public health care (Medicare). Generally as a newly arrived resident you are required to wait for two-years (2 years) before you could receive any social security payments.

    You may see it here: http://www.nationalvisas.com.au/skilled/...

  4. a visa is only a document to allow entry into Australia,he will need his own medical insurance.

    if he is from the UK he can use our medicare system

  5. No, the Visa does not cover him.

    He will need Health Insurance as Medicare is not available to non-Australians.
