  1. I would ask your pediatrician if you think there is a problem.  Doctors usually get concerned if something could be wrong, so if they haven't said anything, you're son is probably still in the normal range for learning to walk.  My daughter started walking at 13-1/2 months, and i thought she was a late walker.  My friend's baby is 15 months and isn't quite walking yet, but she is trying though.  So if you son shows signs of walking, that's a good thing.

  2. He is lazy... Im not the least bit ashamed to say my baby is lazy because she is and that is why she is 17 months and just last week started to walk. We all knew she could be she wanted to be lazy crawl instead of walk. Now she is just barely walking on her own. It really is no big deal kids do things on their own time when they feel like it.

  3. my god child was around 19 months when she started walking, my son was 10 months when he started walking. every child has their own rate of speed.  believe me there were times where i wished my son couldn't walk.  once they start, there is no stopping them. lol.  i'm sure your child is absolutely fine and still within the milestones.  if you are concerned bring it up to your doctor.

  4. I have 3 sons, 2 of which are diagnosed with macrocephaly (large head greater than the 93rd%tile)  In fact my middle son has a head that is in the 110th%tile.

Macrocephaly is caused by 5 things.  It can be genetically large, dwarfism, tourettes, hydrocephaly, and the #1 cause is autism which is what my 2 sons have.

You would know if it was dwarfism or hydrocephaly.

    My son's neurologist report says:

The patient has a slightly dysmorphic macrocephalic head.  So yeah, they do tell you that.  Your specialist may not have said more because the etiology (cause) is idiopathic (unknown).

My experience has been autism.  Autistic children typically have low muscletone (hypotonia) therefore have gross motor delays.  Autistic children also have macrocephaly because of the frontal lobe growing out of control until age 7.  Is your son extremely good looking with recessive features?  This is also a physical manifestation of autism.  Green or blue eyes?  Curly or red hair?  My oldest has green eyes and only 1-2% of the population has this.  My middle autistic son has blue.  How about stature?  Autistics tend to be short below the 50%tile.

If he doesn't fit this description its not likely to be autism and can just be genetically macrocephalic and has some low muscle tone.  I would contact early intervention to see if he qualifies for PT.  Early intervention is free.

  5. My son was a late bloomer as well. Now he is 3 years old and thriving immensely with his motor skills as well as mentally. He took to potty training so quickly; he is barely 3 and has that shtt down pat, which isn't so common for a boy. Don't sweat it. Kids progress at their own pace. My son's pediatrician told me her husband didn't start walking until d**n near 2 years old, and he graduated law school early, at the top of his class. So there ya go!

My son also had a larger than normal head at birth, and i have a smaller than normal pelvis resulting in a scheduled c-section. I think he got that from his dad! But he's a gorgeous happy 3 yr old and no one has seemed to notice! ;-)

  6. MY SON WAS 17 MOS BEFORE H ELEARNED TO WALK, HE WAS DOING COMBAT CRAWL B4 THAT... IT COULD BE JUST A DEVELOPMENTAL DELAY, IM SURE ITS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT... MY SISTER'S LITTLE GIRL WAS 18 MOS OLD B4 SHE WALKED AND MY NIECE TOO.... IM SURE EVERYTHING IS FINE AND HE WILL WALK FOR YOU REAL SOON....  IF HE IS NOT WALKING BY TH ETIME HE IS 2 THEN CALL HIS PEDIATRICIAN....  KATHY

  7. Ask the doc what the problem is.

Is he around other children close to his age who walk? My son didn't start waling until he was 17 mos. The daycare I stupidly selected wouldn't move him into the toddler room until he could walk. SO he wasn't motivated. I put im in a better center and he was walking in 2 weeks! He had to walk to keep up with his little buddies.

  8. My daughter didn't walk unassisted until she was 17 months old.  No big deal.  Toddlers can start walking unassisted as late as 18 months and its still within the "normal range".  All kids do things at their own pace.

A doctor wouldn't say "his round head is bigger than normal".  Even if they did, they'd explain to you what that meant and would run tests if they were concerned.
