in the past 10 hours (from 8am to 6pm) he has eaten:

Trix cereal with milk

blueberry cereal bar

pb&j

watermelon

popcorn chicken

green beans

chex mix

more blueberry cereal bars (2 this time)

banana chips

and he is telling me he is hungry AGAIN!

We have dinner around 7:00-7:30. I am making him wait this time. It's only an hour away.

Does this seem normal?!?

He is very active but he always has been and hasn't asked to eat this much before.

I suspected a growth spurt but this has gone on for 2 weeks now.

We play outside, build with legos, build train tracks, play cars, with sports balls, etc. I dont know how he could be bored. Plus he has a brother and a great dane to play with!

  1. If he is hungry, and active, happy and is a normal weight, then I wouldn't worry - if he is heavy for his age and height, then make sure he is eating more fresh vegetables and fruit and cut back on the cereal bars.

  2. It can definitely get on your nerves when you're constantly giving your child food and they just keep coming back to you saying they're hungry again but it's normal. They're just growing.

  3. My dauighter went thru this at that age and just about ate us out of house n home. Yea it seems like alot but at about age 4 they go thru a decent growth spurt or atlest mine did. So I contributed the eating to that and having more energy. For his lil snacks try to keep it to a 1/4 c or a bit less if you want to keep him from over eating. If not I say from exerience give him what he wants with in reason and if he still eats good at regular meal times all the better.

  4. I am a Certified Medical Assistant

You need to take him to his Pediatrician there is a disorder where the child is hungry all the time.. It usually starts around your sons age... Based on what he is eating and if he indeed has this disorder he will become obese no matter how active he is..

Please take him to his Pediatrician ASAP

  5. How old is he? Most boys between like 6 and 12 just constantly eat. All the boys I babysit and my nephews between those ages are ALWAYS hungry. They are just growing so fast!

  6. He is just growing. My daughter who is 4, will be 5 in a few mths, just started doing this as well. She is ALWAYS hungry... lol Becareful though that he isnt eating out of boredom.

  7. Instead of cereal try giving him oatmeal and a banana in the morning. They are both high in fiber and fiber helps to keep you full longer. Please have a schedule with your son and dont let them snack inbetween. Kids sometimes think they are hungary when they are bored. Maybe that might be it. Please dont overfeed your son. Ive seen to many overweight kids and when you ask the parent why they feed them so much they say, " Well im not gonna say no when my child wants food!" Your setting him up for disater if you continue down that route. Hes not starving like children in Africa are so h**l be alright. Just lay out an eating schedule for him and show it to him and tell him he cant anything in between. Children have to have boundries, they cant have whatever they want. You are the parent, control him. Also keep a jar with snacks it in that he can have for the day, and tell him thats all there is and if he chooses to finish his snack early then there will be no more. Put like three or four snacks in the jar. Good luck mama and remember YOU run the house.  : )

  8. Offer him healthy things, instead of sugar cereals and cereal bars. When he comes down from that sugary stuff, he does feel hungry. Offer him veggies, string cheese and wheat crackers with peanut butter. Kids go through growth spurts and eat more than normal. He's a growing boy. Another thing, make sure that he's staying hydrated. The body can confuse dehydration with hunger.

  9. he's growing...just keep offering him healthy food choices

  10. he's growing, he's a boy. It's probably a growth spurt. I don't think that's even that much food. I don't know the portions of some things, but my 14 month old girl eats almost that much, and she's    bordering underweight for her height and age. don't worry, feed him lot's of healthy, different foods.

  11. He's going through a serious growing spurt and he's very active which will both make him hungry. Make sure he's really sitting and eating a full meal. Sometimes kids are so eager to get up and go that they stop eating before they are actually full. Another thing you may want to try is offering more drinks and less food. Our bodies are very bad at telling the difference between thirst and hunger. Fill him up with lots of water and see if the eating gets under control.
