My son is traveling out of country PLEASE HELP?

my son is goung to mexico with his great uncle and his family. my uncle and my son have the same last name and look similar. my son has a valid passport. what else do i need to do for him to leave the country? i heard about a notorized letter if i do need that what should it say? and how should it be signed? grandpa is dropping him off in michigan (we are in the eastern part of ohio) any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. He'll probably be fine, since Mexico is pretty casual about people coming from the US, but it couldn't hurt to have a notarized letter signed by both parents saying that the great uncle has your permission to travel with your son to Mexico.


  2. That letter is required by Mexican law.  See site below and read the section on MINORS under Entry Requirements.

  3. I had a similar question for my niece and found this on a site:

    "Minors traveling with an adult other than their legal parents or guardians must have an original notarized letter of permission signed by both parents authorizing travel, and a photo ID is required. In addition, the letter should state the name, address and phone number of the person whom the child is traveling with."

    Haven't gotten any further myself...
