Our son's turning 1, and ever since he was in the womb he was only into one thing, rock and roll. I put metallica on when my wife was pregnant and he loves it. Now he's into drums, piano, you name it. So we thought a rock and roll birthday party would be perfect(not 50's), we need ideas. We want this party to be the best ever, but we have to be mindful not to offend grandparents in anyway. We're going to have rockband playing, and a drum cake, but need more ideas to make this party really rockin! thanks!

  1. Is this party for him or for you?  First birthdays should be small with close family and friends with attention on the baby..not a band.   Just my 2 cents.

  2. Make mixed CDs as party favors.  Include your favorite songs.  Make a cool cover on the computer photoshpping your son's face onto a real album cover (like the baby on the Nirvana cover ?).

You could also give out cheap drumsticks, kazoos, etc.

The invitations could look like concert tickets.  This web site makes cool ones for pretty cheap.  They look like Ticketmaster tix  http://www.littleangelannouncements.com/...

It sounds like an awesome theme for your kiddos party!

  3. You could find some fun, cheap stuff on this site, if there's time.

  4. For a one year old? You should not have more than two other children there anyway. Too young; and they become overwhelmed. It is a bit sophisticated for a child so young, really.

  5. sounds a little over the top for a 1 yo birthday.

but anyways- I like the burning of CDs for party favor idea, or earplugs! how about some type of rocker jewelry or itunes gift cards? make sure to play a few games of Rock Band or Guitar Hero! (we play those every holiday with our family..it's tradition now!)

  6. This is not a party for a your one year old...this is a party for YOU!!

Over the top is not the word for it.  Hardly appropriate for a one year old...sounds like his parents haven't grown up yet.

  7. That is so cute!!!!

You could buy a bunch of Jon Bovi-esque wigs for guests to wear.  For the kids to play with, Oriental Trading catalog sells inflatable guitars, microphones, etc. Maybe for adult favors you could burn a bunch of Rock Classics cds.

Have fun and happy birthday to the mini-rocker!
