my son is 8 next month and as he grows up it looks like his clumsiness is gettin even worse!he has got his head in th clouds all th time:he leaves his stuff everywhere,he forgets everythin,he has no common sense at all,etc..he would forget his head if it wasnt screwed on his neck!!for example:he tries 2 put his coat on with his school bag in his hand even though its obvious tht it wont get through the sleeve,he leaves his glasses on his head n then sarts looking 4 them,he puts his clean pants on ontop of th dirty ones without realisin, when hes gettin ready 4 bed,he takes one sock off n leaves the other one on and then walks off etc...this, and many other things, happens everyday...me and my partner thought that martial arts will help him be more focused, but so far it doesnt look like its working...his teachers told us that even at school he is like this and its worrying me....what can i do to help him?

  1. Do you think this may be the result of some kind of condition he has??

  2. Talk to your son's school psychologist, occupational therapist, and physical therapists and see if they can evaluate him. If his distraction also affects his academics, then they will not hesitate to look into it.

Based on the aforementioned descriptions of your son's actions, your son might have other conditions that are negatively affecting his balance, attention, and perception (i.e., visual perception, spatial orientation, processing disorder, etc.). I hope you find the answers you need! Don't just ignore the signs, if you seek help, they might be treated.

  3. I think you need to do more discipline to him.

  4. as a mom, i know how it feels 2 hav a kid lyk urs coz mine is lyk dat 2. i guess it's beter 2 focuse mor on d positive attitude of d child rather than dwell on his weaknesses so we can appreciate him better. let's allow d child to develope on his own phase and time. don't give up, that's the reason why we become parents to our children. our role is to be there 4 them  when NO ONE else would. happy parenting. God bless.

  5. Hi, my boyfriends son is 11 and he is very much the same as you describe ur son 2 be. I would recommend taking him to the doctors where they will carry out a very simple test to check ur sons memory and see if everything is as it should be for a child of this age. Having had the test on our 11 year old we found that nothing was wrong and that he is just clumsy and maybe a little forgetful. I would suggest sticking little notes around the house for the things ur son needs to remember, i know problem is very frustrating but if u stick notes around with subtle reminders ur son should hopefully over time just remember the things like taking dirty undies off before putting clean ones on. Try not too worry or stress to much, another thing u could do is a reward chart where u would reward him for doing things the correct way round, and another thing is dont make him feel bad for being forget, i know its hard but try to ignore it as much as you can and correct it in the nicest way possible as not to 'get on' at him.

    Hope this helps

  6. First go to someone bigwig at school like the headmaster, because he or she has got all the experience and they will explain it or atleast will help u what to do. But, dont instantly rush to shrinks (psychological doctors) because thier bill is a saw

i was like that when i was a kid, only because the lack of interest and the feeling towards somethings that most of people are not interested- when he grow up he will have different intersts- to my knowledge

  7. Do get a thorough check up for him first to eliminate any medical condition.

once thats out of the way find something to help him focus . Set small tasks for him and reward him to get his confidence up. Kumon, yoga etc also helps.

  8. Hi elly - my friend has trained in HANDLE (all about balancing the vestibular- both sides of the brain)  and practices it the school she teaches in but .. she herself uses what are known as Krazy straws- they look like party straws but they are very difficult to drink through - i will try to post a link i found explaining what they do -  altough I'm not too clever at that lol

    http://www.theraproducts.com

    - go into  daily living and click on Krazy drinking straws-it says the following

These fun and challenging straws work well for children who are developing oral motor control. Also assist children to organize their attention/behavior for quiet activities. 8" long

you can buy them directly on

for his co-ordination try activities such as jigsaws etc- hope this helps -

hope this helps- chances are he is a normal 8 year old with his head full of cartoons etc - which are more important to him than doing routine stuff!! i have a teen like that lol

hope it all works out well . take care :)
