They usually give a little bit more then the state minimum wage to start, but aren't that bad after a few months.

I work in a McDonalds in England, I am under 18 and get paid £4.25 ($8.10) an hour. Minimum wage here for under 18s is £3.40 ($6.60). So it's pretty good.

A lot of my friends who work in other retail outlets get paid about the same amount, maybe +30p or so.

McDonald's employee care and working environment in is significantly better here than in the states. Especially Franchised stores because the employees are under the care of the franchisee rather than the crappy company.
