Hi! My son, Carter, just got a tooth pulled (at 4:30). He is really hard to numb, and they attempted to numb him three times. (Which is when they finally pulled got it out.) The numbing still hasn't worn off. I understand that since he had so much numbing, it will take longer to ware (sp?) off. Anyway, he is in pain (I gave him medicine, which isn't helping.) Is there anything that we can do to make the numbing go away? His is laying on the couch with an icepack on the side of his face. Thank you. He is almost 9, by the way. ~Kate

  1. give him the meds exactly as prescribed.  be sure he drinks plenty of fluids and has soft foods -include popsicles.  follow up with the dentist in a few days.

  2. i symphatized with you, i share that experience with you, with my son when hes 5 yrs old.  You cannot do anything about the pain.. medicine helps  to lessen the pain, but the ache is  just around the corner.

why dont you entertain her with his favorite stuff, like watching his favorite show/ movie,  go play with him with play station game, or  asked his friend to come in your place & play together.

with this little stuff, he surely will not remember hes in pain..

  3. Use cold packs.

But the bottom line is that it will take as long as it takes.

Make sure you follow the doctor's instructions and give him the right medicine.  At 8 they are not so cuddly as 2 -- but this might be a good time to hold him like he was a baby for his own comfort -- not to mention yours.  Change the cold packs out for the heating pad ever 1/2 hour or so -- you'll get blood circulating in there faster and that will clear it out faster.

God bless Carter, take away his pain, restore his normal feelings, and let his mom sleep too.

  4. Ice cream is the best cure. I should know since I have also gotten teeth pulled out, recently my wisdom teeth. The cold will help just make sure it doesn't have any pieces of chocolate or any other hard things in it.

  5. im a kid too! i got 8 teeth pulled not all in one sitting of course! ice cream, movies, and tv then he will probaly sleep after give him fluids. let him watch tv all he wants! trust me the medicane kicked in after my partial surgery. i fell asleep to the tv! I was seeing two of John Madden'd head after my dad turned the channel noticing i was barely alseep. my last words were "I was watching thasdffsafd hfdf hords." then i belched and fell asleep.

  6. When I was numbed, it lasted for a whole day. If it doesn't get better by night time, maybe it'll go away overnight and he'll wake up feeling okay again.

  7. Just leave him alone - the numbness will go away when it goes away.  There's much more urgent things, in life, than  a numb mouth................................
