My son keeps having p**p and pee accidents?

My son is 3 1/2 and he has been fully potty trained (day and night) since 2 1/2. The last 3 days he has been having problems making it to the bathroom on time. First he ran to the bathroom and ended up peeing on the floor in the bathroom. He was really ashamed of himself because when I went in to see what was taking him so long he was hiding his face on the wall. Then later that day he started to rush and I helped him but he still didn't make it to p**p all the way on the toilet. Today he went one time, had an accident one time, and he has gotten "skid marks" in his underwear a bunch of times. And constantly has to go....but then only a drop comes out. What's going on?

  1. ok, first i would take him to the doctor to rule out any medical problems.  Then, if that checks out, sit down with him and talk to him.  It sounds like he may be getting really involved with what he's doing and not heeding the first urges, thinking he has more time.

    Good luck

  2. I'd take him to the doctor since this isn't normal for him. It could be a stage I know both my kids regressed after they were potty trained for a short time but doesn't seem like that is what he is doing. Could he be constipated? That was a big issue with my son and #2.

  3. If he's got marks in his underpants, it's likely he's not wiping well enough.  Help him out with that.  If he's constantly got to pee but only a little bit comes out, it sounds like he may have a UTI or bladder infection.  Take him to the doctor and have it checked out.  Those can become dangerous and nasty kidney infections if left untreated.  Also, my 5 year old daughter does the same thing from time to time.  They get so wrapped up in playing or watching their favorite show that they don't try to get there until it's the last second.  Be sure that you don't punish the accidents, just tell him it happens and to try to get to the potty right when he feels he needs to go, not when it's an OMG I HAVE TO GO RIGHT NOW feeling.  Good luck!
