  1. I think this depends on where you live. I don't know of any kids skipping kindergarten anymore and heading straight on to 1st grade. Not since kindergarten was made mandatory a few decades back. That and most schools won't admit a child into a certain grade if their bday falls after a certain date~~~which where I live is in the end of August.

You may want to contact the school and ask the administration all of your questions as they are the only ones that can accurately answer your question.

  2. If he is used to the structured environment in a classroom I would say go ahead.  If he has never been to school before though it may be better to put him in SK so he adapts to school.

  3. i would saw so..... he sounds like he is with other 6 year olds.... does he know some math if so he should be ok

  4. I say yes.

  5. talk with his kindergarten teacher and pediatrician.

  6. Better to be in the top of the class.  So much learning to do.  Better be aheaed/keeping up, than being behind. Don't push your boy ahead.  Just me talkin though.  :)

  7. Is he emotionally ready to go to 1st grade?

    Is he skipping kindergarten?

Talk to one of his preschool teachers and see what they say. They will be good judges!

  8. He may be intellectually ready, but he may not be psychologically/emotionally ready.  Have the state administer a readiness exam to determine his readiness.  Most states have a September 1 cutoff for age; being so close, the school district may allow the exception (our old one didn't for my Sept 19 girl)....but it is still up to the school district whether or not he goes into first grade.

Food for thought; it is well known that emotionally, boys develop slower than girls (most of the time).  My son, a November baby, was put into kindergarten when he became of age (we did not try to get him in early).  Our entire first week of school consisted of me standing in line with him and leading him in by the hand, him crying the entire way; and for an entire month he would not respond to the teacher, the social worker, nor would he participate in class in any way.  Emotionally he was not ready to be there; thankfully he adjusted quickly after that first month and does very well in school now (he's 9).  If you put your son in before he's ready, you may have a child that dislikes school and resists all efforts to teach him.  Best to discuss this with your school's social worker before deciding what to do.

  9. I was only 6 years old when my mom send me to grade 1 because there  were no kindergarten in our school during that time so the plan is I will be just an "extra student" there which means after a year I will still be in Grade 1. And then, after a year my grade was considered fair enough so I continue to Grade 2.

  10. I am a middle school teacher.  My students range in age between 9 and 12.  I have noticed through my 12 years of teaching that the younger boys do not do as well.  If he would be younger than his peers, I would wait.  This has nothing to do with intelligence.  Have him be the oldest all of the benefits will be his.

  11. my son will be 6 on Aug 16th and his k-5 teacher says that they are not physically ready for 1st grade. their muscles in their hands are not ready for continuous writing and they are not ready to keep their attention focused on learning. they can be academically ready but not developmentally ready. i think i prefer my son be the oldest in his class than the youngest so we are putting him in a class called pre-1st. good luck!!

  12. sounds ok, just be sure socially he can keep up with the kids that may be 12 -18 months older. At that age the gap, socially and developmentally, is large. Just ensure he is socially ready for 1st grade.

  13. I think he sounds ready for grade 1.

  14. first ask nur son if he is ready!!!if he is then nothing to worry because based on ur story ur son is smart enough to be in grade 1!!!!so,gudlak to him!!!

  15. The school will do a grade placement test to determine his readiness for first grade.  Just ask.

  16. I think you need to go to 1st grade.  Or at least the grammar part of it.

  17. I know that pre-kindrgarten is age 4, kindergarten is age 5, and grade 1 is for six year olds. If he is going to be six in September, then grade 1 is where he is supposed to be. I assume he has already done kindergarten, and if not, why???????
