I am hoping to use diet, or other techniques to try and improve his behaviour at school. He is very disruptive, has been tested for ADHD but negative. Maths is not a problem, english and spelling he is behind in. He cannot do as he is told, won't concentrate on one subject in hand. however, very sporty, if he is interested in it, he will do it well, but has to shout out. Always thinks he is right and has to have the last word. Sleeps well, eats well, very hyper. Can anyone suggest anything to help.

  1. What would be good is to remove corn syrup and all artificial colorings from his diet.  These things, as well as food allergies, can cause a Fight or Flight type of reaction.  Look for dilated pupils, fast heart rate, sweating, anger within 10 mins after he eats or smells certain chemicals.

Also, increase zinc, essential fatty acids and magnesium in his diet.

Two books: Dr. Rapp's Is This Your Child? and Leo Galland's Superimmunity for Kids.

  2. Try 1 teaspoon in AM and PM of Bragg's Organic Apple Cider Vinegar in a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water or fruit juice.  It is $4 / quart at most health food stores.

Also read up on muscle testing:

i.e. You can determine what he is reacting to by putting something in his non-dominant hand and pushing down on the opposite arm while he resists.

  3. smarties (the blue ones)

  4. Too many questions left unanswered...

    How old?

    How long have symptoms existed?

Any major life changes (moving, divorce, loss of parent/sibling, etc.)?

  5. stay away       from anything that has red food dye in it.

    keep the sugar level low.

    and sorry but,

try to let him know who's in control!!!!

    you or HIM?

  6. Was he tested by school psychologist, or by an independent professional group? Perhaps retesting is required? Some kids have problems with sugar, caffeine, but there is so much more. Preservatives in foods, food dyes. It can be mind boggling. It will be overwhelming to you in order to do all of this.

If it were me, I would be having him retested. There is no food that is going to be a  miracle food to remedy what is going on with him, but things like and caffeine can hyp him up. Perhaps if you talked with your family doctor and told him these things, he can suggest a specialist. Keep insisting until you get something going. If you don't fight for your child no one will. Been there myself. There could be food intolerances going on but I wouldn't dismiss neurological problems, just because one testing came back negative. There are other conditions resemble those types of behaviors and are treatable. To sum it up, get professional help rather than try to do this on your own. JMO
