  1. He simply needs to telephone his bank and request that they cancel the DD for him. If he has online banking access, he should be able to do this himself should he prefer. It may be worthwhile just double checking what the payment was in relation to, to ensure that the service is no longer provided. If an error is made, it may also be worthwhile requesting a refund. This is a prime example of why it is important to regularly review bank accounts to ensure that any payments taken are both current and authorised.

  2. He needs to ring the company that are taking the debit card payments from his bank every month and ask them to cancel it. He also needs to ring his bank to cancel the standing order/direct debit.

Unless a company and/or the bank are informed that the debit card payments are to be stopped, they will continue taking the money every month.

    Hope that helps.

  3. None of the other answers are quite correct if this was a monthly payment set up by him using his card that where he no longer wants the service of (eg: gym membership, AOL etc) then he needs to contact the company taking the payments.

If he informs them, 1st by phone (make a note of time, date & person he spoke to) is worth a try, but then in writing (keep a copy) or by email he can then go to the bank to dispute the payments as they are then not allowed to take further payments so many days (15?) after they have been informed in writing unless the original agreement with the company was to pay a years membership or something similiar.

The bank cannot stop regular debit card payments until this has been done.

If it is a Standing Order or Direct debit then the bank can stop them.

  4. He needs to go to his bank or building society, take a recent statement with him as proof, instruct them to cease any further payments towards the person/company concerned.

Write a letter to who ever he is paying the money to informing them that the payments will be ceasing from what ever date he's been to the bank/building society & why payments are ceasing.

    Good Luck hunni. X :-)

  5. He needs to go to the bank and ask them to stop the direct debit.

  6. Contact whoever is taking the payments and ask them to stop.

If that doesn't work, he should tell the bank that he has lost the card, they will issue a new card with a new number and so whoever is taking the payments won't be able to do it any more.

  7. Assuming this isn't for late payment charges or payment of a debt incurred, he should either write to the bank with the details and requesting that they stop payments or if he has internet banking contact them that way. He should also write to whom ever is making the request for payment and tell them to stop their requests.
