HE is 13 and said he swallowed the dime while riding his bike.

He is acting fine, but what sort of things should I look for that would cause a blockage etc, considering a dime is small it should just pass through, Correct?

  1. We just went through something similar a few months ago---so here is what I know after several thousand dollars  in medical bills.

There are three narrowing of the digestive tract that the dime has to go through---getting stuck in one will cause PROBLEMS, but if the dime gets through then you should be okay.

The first spot is at the top of the stomach and if he's not in terrible pain then it is past that spot.

The second spot is at the bottom of the stomach---if it gets jammed there it will hurt ALOT....but the dime could also end up sitting in his stomach for weeks and you don't want that---SO LOAD the kid up on fiber and liquids. LOTS AND LOTS of fiber. get grape juice with fiber, eat fresh fruits and veggies,. etc...

The third spot is in the intestines--also painful and noticeable.

Basically, if he starts throwing up or is in serious stomach pain he could have the coin jammed and you might need major surgery in a real hurry. If he goes more than 24 hours without a bowel movement then get him to the doctor because he could have an intestinal blockage.

If you can have him try to keep an eye out for the coin and he can tell you when he passes it, that would be a good thing.

Expect the dime to show up some time in the next few days. If it doesn't then  you might want to call the doctor and have him examined because you don't want the dime digesting in his stomach.

  2. well if he poops out to nickels or 10 pennys then i would be worried

    just playing

call the doctor and talk to them i am sure they will say it will pass i guess just check his poo for the next few days and see if it comes out that is the only way to know for sure

just if he tells you he feels weird or cramping in his stomach take him to the doctor

tell him to keep change out of his mouth

  3. if anything was wrong youd know by now i dont think u should worry but if he starts running a real high fever i would take him to the doctor.

  4. No problems here, there are much bigger items that pass thru that the muscels can accomidate. The question should be, what was he doing with a dime in his mouth.

  5. It should pass through. My friends daughter swallowed one of those sticky hands that you get in the quarter machines and it passed through

  6. Well if you WANT you can go in and root through his f***s after he is done taking a dump to find the dime.

  7. It should pass through, but watch out for watery diarrhea and a distended abdomen

  8. How badly do you want that dime?

I'd just let it go, but if he seems to be in pain, or gets constipated, check it out with the doctor.

  9. It should easily pass, just take him to the Dr. if he has cramping or constipation.

  10. My cousin swallowed a loonie (it's a dollar coin, larger than a quarter for those of you who aren't Canadian).

He was taken to the hospital, just in case, but it did end up passing.

Just watch out for anything abnormal.

  11. dont worry it wont affect him
