  1. Be proud of his accomplishments but don't read too much into it.  That's a bigger than average vocabulary for his age range, but don't fall into the trap of thinking that makes him more "advanced" than other kids.  He may keep his advantage or others may catch up.  My daughter spoke hundreds of words by that age, was reading chapter books at 3, and remains well ahead of grade level and a straight-A student at age 9.  But plenty of kids who start talking later, or get off to a slower start, will also go on to be well ahead of grade level and straight A students, and some who get off to a fast start will level off.

The only thing that you can say for sure is that he's certainly a smart kid and that you're doing a great job talking to him and stimulating him.  Keep up the good work!

  2. How do you find the time to count the number of words he knows?

  3. My son also seemed very advanced. He is three now, but before he was a year old was counting to 5 and saying difficult words such as "computer". Evertime I'd tak him on playdates with kids his age I'd wonder wy they were not talking. He was speaking in complete sentenses before he was two years old and could carry on a conversation. If I were you I would just write everything down in his baby book. I guess the real test for these two little brainiacs will come whenthey go to pre-K. I'm in Georgia where public schools are ranked pretty darn low on the list so I'm not going to send him to public - actually I wouldn't even if they weren't ranked low. :) But I'm planning to get him into a good private school this year. I'm looking for one that uses A-Beka. It's the toughest ad best curriculum that's out there.

Anyway, it sounds to me like your son is pretty advanced. But when I told the doctor at his appointments they were very impressed, but that was about it.

I'd suggest for you to keep channenging him as far as working with him on his skills. It's VERY good for his brain to get a lot of excersize from now until he is 5 it grows the most and the fastes from what I understannd.

As far as the number of teeth, I don'tb think how many teeth a child has really has much to do with how smart they are or will become, but from everything else you have said... Wow! You have a smart little man on your hands!!

Also I'd suggest flash cards that have pictures, letters, or numbers on one side. That would help texh him new things too and a good way to work those brain muscles!!

Good luck to you!!! You have every reason to be VERY proud! It is not common that a child under 2 knows as much as yours does! He is acceptionally smart for his age!

I'm just curious - are you a stay at home mom? I am and was told that has a lot to do with it as well, but who knows. lol

    anyway good luck!!!

  4. My 2nd daughter was like that - she knew every children's nursery song at about that age and would sing constantly.  I remember her singing Christmas Carols the Xmas before she turned 2 (she is an April baby)

My eldest barely had 1/2 words at the same age and didn't really start talking until after she turned 2.  She is now off the charts ahead of her grade and reads at a 6th grade level (she is 8).

I would caution you to be very wary of labling him gifted.  Many school have gifted programs and as one of my cousins put it, when you are gifted, you just get more work.  I think children who are advanced like this need more stimulation but school is only part of it.  Museums, arts, cultural events, etc, are a much bigger piece of the puzzle.  Your son would probably love an interactive children's museum to experience many things.   Take him to things that he can experience and add to his mental ability.  It is so rewarding to see them expand their minds.

    Congrats and good luck!

  5. wow smart baby you should be proud...i see a bright future
