my oldest is about to turn 6, for nearly a year hes been pestering us for a skate board and wants one for his birthday. I'm not so sure its a good idea. My husband and I don't know how to ride them and we don't plan on getting him one yet. For those of you that skateboard what age did you learn? I don't want to dissapoint him but I want him to be a little older before we let him try it

  1. First, it's skateboard! Then, a nose ring! Oh that loud heavy metal  music! Then He'll want a guitar with Pevy amp or drum set! After that a buzz cut hair style and a diamond studs for both ears!

  2. i love to skateboard...i think i learned around the age of 11.... and im now 16

  3. skateboard,,,no way just let him go skydiving((haha, just kidding)) but yaa i think you should lte him get a skateboard:P

  4. if you do get him a skate board just remember he'll be wearing a helmet and padding and everything. safety first. yeah i agree six years old is a bit young but just wait like two years or so... i really dont know what to get him but that guy above me if freaking full of it. i know lots of skaters that dont have piercings and buzz cuts and everything. they would just dress like one. like clothes from pacsun and stuff.

  5. get a pliable plastic board with soft wheels and easy trucks (toys r us).

or a board with a t-handle till he gets the hang of it.

alternate: get him a razor scooter, maybe one for the dad too so they can ride around the block together.  looks goofy but what's more important, looking goofy or being with the son?  one day down the road you'll want to hang with the kid and he won't be into it if you don't start now.

after graduating to a regular board, find a nice laminated plywood type and some quality trucks and bearings ($100-$150).  boards break with regularity, say about every 6 weeks or so.  the trucks can be transferred to the new board

  6. I could ride since I was 5 but now I wish I didn't start so early, it's because at the age of 5, the board is a bit big, and you get so down and upset because you can't do any tricks, and it really REALLY sucks. But as I got older it came a lot easier, and it was fun, you don't hurt yourself nearly as much, and it's a lot more fun all around. You can get him a skateboard, but expect scrapes.  Im 14, and really started getting into the sport around 11.
