  1. Yes, absolutely this is possible.  Children who are born early are always more at risk of experiencing developmental / behavioural difficulties.

  2. Preemies who are born this early very often have learning difficulties. Is your child in Special Ed? I know in our district, a doctor can recommend educational testing. Talk to your pediatrician to see what his recommendation is. It is my experience (10 years as a school counselor) that could be a contributing factor in your son's disabilities.

  3. Yes, of course, he may have deficits that are a result of his extremely pre-mature birth.  But it's pretty hard to say for sure (especially when I have no information about his early development).   Some children with the problems you describe do not have a history of prematurity.

I assume that he has been evaluated and has an IEP?    His problems sound rather significant.

  4. yes it is possible-there is a high correlation between prematurity and disability-from learning disabilities to severe cognitive impairments

my guess is if there were any neurological issues with teh frontal lobe of the brain-it could explain his behavior-

have you consulted a pediatric neurologist or developmental pediatrician?

Some children who are born prematurely-do not have any long term health problems or delays that they grow out of -

it is also possible that he has a learning disability not related to his prematurity

have you requested an evaluation from the school Child Study Team (special eduction) or consulted a private educational psychologist?

He may be eligible for an IEP (special education) or a 504 plan (accommodations for disability)
