He is healthy now, He is 5 week old.

It took a while for the doctors to get him breathing after he was born, Scared the life out of me...

Just wondering if this could mean he may have breathing problems throughout any point in his life?

  1. awww

It might and it might not. Just wait and see.

  2. I had my son vaginally with no drugs and he was born not breathing either...it took the doctor and nurses 17 seconds to get him to start.  His birth came two weeks early and the delivery was very quick so in the moment neither my husband nor I actually knew this.  One of my nurses told me about it the next day.    The nurse explained to me that it's not exactly common for this to happen but it's not uncommon either. He's now 11 months and has not had any issues because of it.  He's had two colds and a mild fever due to teething but that's it as far as sickness goes.  He's a healthy little boy that loves to make lots of noise!

  3. There's really no way to say for sure but if you are worried please ask your doctor.  I'm glad he is a healthy lad now!

  4. my 3 year old took over 5 minutes to strt breathing, it was terrifying.  He is absolutely fine now with regards to breathing!!

Dont worry at all!  Have fun with him, they are gorgeous at that age

  5. i don't have a clue my mate was born not breathing and she grew up fine and had no breathing problems ATALL she is now a healthy 18 year old girl who always bugs the c**p out of me lol

  6. he will be fine my sisters daughter never did breath your lucky x

  7. Well i have never heard of breathing problems from not breathing at birth, but i have heard of it damaging the brain.  If the brain goes too long without oxygen then it can have harmful effects. Hopefully it wont, you will just have to wait until they get a little older to find out.

My sister was blue when she was born and wasn't breathing and she is fine.

My daughter wasn't getting enough oxygen and her heart rate fell drastically and she is now fine.  So it could be nothing

  8. i doubt it, my daughter was born not breathing, i was an emergency section. they told me you have a baby girl. i didnt hear anything, no crying, nothing - just people scurrying about and i kept asking whats going on and they said we will bring her over shortly. a few min later they brought her over and she was fine and they explained that she wasnt breathing and what they had to do. she is 12mos now and has no breathing problems whatsoever.

  9. Is he breathing now ? It's necessary to breath.

  10. It would be impossible to know unless you knew why he didnt breathe

I would imagine if he is five weeks old and he was going to have any furtherproblems you would have seen it by now..enjoy your baby

  11. There are many reasons babies have breathing difficulties at birth.  If you had pain relief like demerol too close to delivery it can ause respiratory distress in babies (I know...went through it with my middle child.  I was 8 days overdue and the nurse swore I wasn't in labor...just dehydrated.  So she gave me a shot of demoral to send me home...but guess what - I really was in transition...so baby was born affected by it.  i carry a lot of guilt...she was born blue and not breathing. She just started Kindergarten this week and she is a smart little cookie with not lasting difficulites.  She does have speech delay but that exists in my family regardless...so not sure if deprivation of oxygen might have enhanced that in her???

But, in the end, you can't go back.  Only forward.  Was baby born naturally or c-section?  C-section babies often take a bit longer to breathe too cause they don't have delivery to push the fluid out of their lungs.  Many many babies are born this way and never again have issues.

  12. Congratulations first off!!  I would suggest that if you are at all concerned about baby ask your healthvisitor or GP....I would say that because he was cynosed at birth this would not be an indicator for breathing problems in the future though so panic not!

    Enjoy mummy-hood
