  1. I have chronic asthma and I've never had a problem with that turf stuff. Unless it had a lot of dust and dirt that he might have kicked up than i doubt it was because of that and more likely just the sport and/or the weather he was playing in. Hope he's feeling better I know how it is to have severe asthma attacks I spent most of my childhood in the hospital because of it!

  2. these two don't know **** i am a full blooded asthma patient what happend was him  running alot was the first cause of the attack because he was running more then what his lungs could take in air wise and the chemichals in the turf

  3. Whoa Whoa, Wayne!!! Even as an experienced respiratory therapist I would never say what you said about the 2 answerers.  They only wrote in here to help this mother out.  Not everyone's asthma is like yours.  Trust me I KNOW!!! I have SEEN people come in the ER with asthmas that have been triggered by a variety of things.  You cannot diagnose someone over the internet either, Wayne.  You were not there to see what actually happened to this woman's son.  You can only give suggestions not diagnoses.

So, to you mom.... the asthma could have been brought on by exercise, the turf, dust or particles in the turf (like a previous answerer said), or something else present at football practice or maybe a combination of any of these.  It may be a good idea for him to pay attention next time to when the attack began, so maybe you and your son can go back and figure what the culprit is.

Is he taking a preventative inhaler such a Advair or Symbicort?  This may be a good thing to look into if he is not.  This will prevent an asthma attack.  He will still need to have his rescue inhaler near by in case an attack does come on.  A rescue inhaler is your Albuterol, Xopnex, Combivent, etc...

Best of luck on finding out what caused your son's attack.

  4. Probably not.  Could have been brought on by the exertion, or maybe there was mold/mildew in the artificial turf.  Talk to his doctor about exertion and asthma.
