my son is 2 1/2 and we pretty much have him potty trained. he goes potty all day long at home, and if we are at someones house too. but if we go to like walmart, he tells me that he has to go potty and i take him, but he wont use it. we go thru this like 4 times of saying he has to go and not going. he acts like he is scared of those toilets, too big, or too loud. but i have tried talking to him saying its ok, showed him that i use them, even daddy has taken him into the men's room and he wont go. does anyone have any suggestions on how to help or have been thru this?

  1. My three year old is still scared of the "noisy" auto flush potties.  I help him so he can go while holding his hands over his ears.  He at least has grown out of crying about it.  Good luck.  I'm sure he'll grow out of it!

  2. They have little foldable seats that fit right into your purse or diper bag.  its like the little ring that you may use at home for the potty.  This might help him with the big potty out in public.

As for the noisy flushing toilets(mainly the auto flush ones...) take a paper towel or use your hand and cover the sensor so that it doesn't flush automatically.  When he is done open the door of the stall and have him step out, then uncover the sensor or just flush it manually.  Its a lot less scary this way

I did that for my daughter who's 4 and sometimes still scared(not so much any more though).

  3. Both of my boys were scared of the toilets in the public restrooms because they flush so loudly.  For a while, we had to keep our potty chair in the back of the van for emergencies like that.  It will take some time.  He's still fairly young, but eventually he'll do it.  Sometimes no matter how much you try to talk them into something, they just won't do it!

  4. they have fold up potty seats at walmart that are like 10 bucks. it is worth the try and if no then you can just send to grandmas and say he needs a potty seat there.
