  1. Have you had him evaluated by a speech pathologist?  If not, it's definitely time to do it.  Call his pediatrician to get a referral.  Good luck.

  2. It could be the lack of other children his age, but I wouldn't worry too much. No 2 children are the same, but if you are concerned, best to get him checked by his pediatrician soon so if there is an actual problem you can nip it in the bud now, before he starts school. My son ended up having speech problems, but the school was very helpful, and within a year and a half, he was on track.

  3. just give it time, i know it will be hard to wait but he will come along

  4. I would start with his doctor and discussing your concerns. I would have his hearing checked, see a speech pathologist and have some assessments done to determine if it is a medical issue. If it isn't then I would simply force him to speak by simply not giving him what he wants until he asks for it. I would start slow with words he knows. Such as he would have to ask for a drink to recieve one.

  5. @ 3 you are barely concerned? Tisk tisk. But it's ok there is still time :)

Call your local school district & tell them your child needs to be evaluated for speech delay.

They will act quickly & help you get the help your son needs. Don't be scared it's all to help your son.

Please do not put this off.

  6. Girl, my son did not talk till he was three, I was so worried I had myself convinced he was autistic. All the other moms made fun of him, it was so awful. Now he is 3 1/2 and he never stops talking. Please don't worry or let other people get to you I am sure he is fine.

  7. Hi -

I would call your local school system and have him evaluated. Once you are working to get answers, you should be able to relax because you know you are getting him help that he may need.   He very well could be fine and just take off talking one day.....but what does it hurt to get him some help just in case?  I had 3 of my 4 kids in speech therapy before the age of 4 and they didn't give it a second thought.  It would have been harder if they were older and started to think there was something wrong with them.....or if their little friends started pointing out that they don't talk or they talk "funny".  So, the sooner the better!  Lots of children get speech therapy so don't get dramatic about your son needing help.

You could also check out your local college....they sometimes have speech and language clinics which were GREAT!!

At your home, I would talk away and have plenty moments when you pause to give him a chance to respond.  I would not force him to say anything or withhold things from him as that may frustrate him.....but I also wouldn't anticipate his needs..... encourage him to ask for something.  Do lots of reading and ask him questions.  Overall, give him plenty of opportunities to speak....keep it relaxed.  GOOD LUCK!!

  8. Hi,

Just do onething ask him to shout all the time or make him to sit and ask him to say rhymes..

Else just ask him to play with small kids.. and ofcourse it takes time...

Always take him along with you whenever u go out and anywhere..

show him all the things which he doesnt know.. and leave his freedom to him..

Dont stop him in watever things he does...

and then check it out and I hope it works out...

  9. my suggestion would be to ignore him and act like u arent interested...

    it works trust me

  10. Keep talking to him and don't use baby talk. Even if he doesn't answer just keep up your end of the conversation.

If you're really worried next time you see his pediatrician ask about it.

Kids talk at different times and some are more quiet then others. By talking to him you help him build vocabulary even if he doesn't use them yet.
