  1. play a couple games with the little ones

    like six and under have a game;

    and 10 and under;

    every one older usually sit around and talks

    and catches up or watches there own children;

    balloons are always good for littler kids;

    but good luck =)

  2. One thing that I just recently read and loved the idea so much that I am going to do it at my daughters 1st birthday next week, is buying the Dr.Seuss book "Happy Birthday" and then having loved ones of your child write something in it to them. I think that's a timeless keepsake.

  3. Great question!!! i just posted the same one.

  4. Make it short, and don't overstimulate the baby.  The baby will get cranky and start crying if it is too long or there is too much excitement.  So avoid impulses for lots of games and music.

    Have a quiet time with maybe one present that you help him open, that he can play with.  Lots of gifts is overwhelming.

    Avoid latex balloons, they are a choking hazard.  Avoid small decorations that might be swallowed.  Mylar balloons are okay.

    Consider a "cupcake cake" where guests and baby can each have a small individual cupcake, but the top is decorated like a birthday cake.

    Just have a luncheon for the guests, and have each guest fill out a little card with something special about themself and a special wish for the baby.  Then the child can look at these cards and learn something special about the family and friends that were there (include a photo of the guest on the little card).  Some of these guests probably won't be around long enough for your child to remember them, but you can make a nice memory book out of it.  (for example, Great grandma used to win the county fair for her pie recipies, and she wishes for you to always remember how much she loves you...or something)

    Keep it simple and sentimental.
