i have a 17 month old son who seems to be running rings around me at the minute, i'm easily embarrassed so when he throws tantrums in public its terrible! but its also getting to be like it in the household as, my partner thinks we need to be more stwern and go through with what we say so he knows its wrong. But i don't know what to do to show hes done something wrong with him being so young.

  1. You need to follow through with whatever you've told him.  As for the tantrums, unless he's in danger of hurting himself or someone else, walk away from him and ignore him.  You can also pick him up and put him in his room or a corner of a room when he throws a tantrum, and then go about your business.  Toddlers crave attention, and it doesn't matter where that attention comes from.  If you give him attention when he's throwing a tantrum, he'll continue to do so.  By all means, let him know that the behavior is not acceptable, but don't dote on him when he acts up.

  2. The words NO, and you place him on a naughty step, seat, mat etc... he needs to learn because it'll only get worse.

  3. He understands far more than you think, you know.  However, I would pick my fights carefully.  Some things just aren't important unless they are putting him at risk.  The fact that he is into everything means that he is curious and wanting to learn.  Just imagine coming into the world and not understanding anything and then learning to walk and being able to reach things.  I think it's awesome.

  4. kids know at this age be firm and start discipline him now before its to late

  5. Its never to early to teach right from wrong. You need to get down to his hight and talk to him about whats been down and why its wrong. You need to punish for the wrong like taking away something but you need to give him things for the good. Teaching him how to clean and his reward is a candy or toy (dollar store is great for things like this)
