My sony hd dvd recorder

My sony hd dvd recorder RDR-HXD 760 wont turn on or off, it just sits half way and says welcome, have tried holding on/off button down which does work for a bit the it comes back on by itself and goes back to welcome. tried turning off at power point for a whole day and still the same. any other solutions welcomeJen
