Question:

My sony home theater reciever keeps on shutting off at high volumes why?

i have a sony audio/video reciever that worked excellent untile today. i hooked up all the speakers and when u turn it up not even half way the sound shuts off and it blinks "protector" repeatedly and i am not sure why it does that. the reciever is proabably a few years old maybe 5 or 6 with the original pro logic 1. what should i do?

  1. check that the positive and negetive wires arent touching together. mine does that to when the wires touch.


  2. Either you are making the amp clip, or you have a stray wire touching somewhere.   Look at all the speaker connections and make sure they're separated.

  3. Check your speaker connections to make sure you don't have any stray wires touching each other.  That could be the simplest cause.  After 5 or 6 years and then to suddenly have a problem could indicate that your amplifier is failing and needs to be replaced.
