Question:

My sony speakers use those color coordinated connectors. I want to buy a new reciever that uses the black....?

and red jacks. Can I snip the wires short of the connectors or do I need to buy new speaker wires. And the sub woofer doesnt use either it looks like it uses a different connection. Where can i buy the Sub-wire.

  1. It's not going to work.  The speakers on Sony home theater in a box sets generally run anywhere between one to three ohms while a standard receiver generally only functions between four at the lowest and 16 ohms.  I'm sorry to say, but you will need to get new speakers to go along with that receiver.  Why are you looking to get a new receiver?  Is it because the other one died?  If you're looking just to go and get something a little more standardized with optical and digital coaxial upgrades, then you'll probably want to go with a package somewhere along the lines of a Yamaha YHT-380 or an Onkyo HT-SR600.  Stay away from boxed systems that claim to be 7.1 because they are really not.  If you would like to get true 7.1 surround sound, you'll have to go with at least a  TX-SR605 and purchase separates for speakers.


  2. yes.  Cut the ends off and be sure to connect red to red and black to black.  although you may want to upgrade to atleast a 16 guage wire for better sound.  But the original wires will work.
