my sub and amp are 200 rms. seems like that should be loud enough. this is in an extended cab truck, so theres not a lot of cabin space to move around. I have my gain k**b a little less than halfway up. lets say 2/5 of the way up, and the same goes for my bass boost.

The kenwood headunit has a 4 v preout, im just wondering how much can i turn my gain up? i know enough not to turn it up too much at all as im just trying to match the output with the input of the head unit. but it seems like it should be louder.

ive read how to do it, but what normal?

  1. that good to know thst you are concerned about adjusting the gains properly.

i am so happy that some one is concerned about there product.

now for the gains  - as the crutchfied advisors told you , " turn the amp till distortion starts and go back a little"

that is the right way - 4volt out put hepls in delivering proper signal through rca's to the amp - it has nothing to do with the loudness.

you can also turn the gains to full but you will have to adjust it through your head unit i.e. the sub volume(if theres one) till there is no distortion.

don't play your sub in distortion or else you subs will get damaged - and i am sure you know this

SET THE GAINS WITH YOUR EARS -

turn off all the equalizes and bass boost

-turn the volume till the point you listen your music

    - start setting the gains till the subs does not distort( 2/5 gain or half way matter on many other situations , i will not discuss them now and you must be a science student to understand it)

    simple :-)

do not use equalizers or bass boost as it will only strain your amplifier .

imagine running your cab truck on 1st gear always

    what will happen?

    - engine damage in few weeks or even the same day

so my friend will happen to the amplifier to if you strain it too much(strain - eq's bass boosts)

i hope i had answered your question - if i can help you in anything else too - email me

    happy booming - good luck
