I just got a rescued female yorkie/poodle mix. She was just spayed last Wednesday and it started Saturday, she is now carrying around a little toy and cries a lot plus she is trying to hide it and she won't leave it. She eats very little, if I can get her attention away from the toy for a few minutes. She even has to take it outside with her. What is happening to her? Does she think she had a baby? Is this normal? and How long will this last? The eating thing is what really has me worried. I am being very loving and attentive since she is a rescue and was abused. What else can I do? Thanks for every ones help.

  1. she either wants to play or has seperation issues very common in shelter dogs walk her alot so she can relese some stress and playing with her tiers her out and reinforces your bond with her plus it also gets her hungry and thirsty ^_^

  2. Did she have her first season, before she was spayed?

Because this can cause it,our Terrier cross had the same problem after she was spayed, she would carry round a small fluffy toy & would constantly cry! It takes at least a couple of weeks for them to get over this, its like they think they have given birth or something. Don't worry, with some dogs or the age they were spayed it causes this,in a few weeks or so she will be fine, they are back to normal. Yes she does think it her baby, like i said our dog was exactly the same as your little dog, just try & hand feed her if she really doesn't want to eat,it sometimes helps. It even probably worst than them actually having a litter of pups because they won't leave it alone! After she has recovered from this "state" she will abandon the toy completely (Unless it her favorite toy) our dog has never been interested in any toys so it was unusual when she started carrying they fluffy thing around after she was spayed!

    Hope this helps. x*x

  3. It might be something else. She could have a urinary tract infection or something. What you should do is check to see if she's going to the bathroom regularly. If not, then you should take her to the vet and see what's wrong with her.
