My step son keeps getting in trouble at school?

i have a 10 year old step son he was doing very good in school, till just recently he does not wanna do home work gets low grades, fights at school, he gets grounded and my husband has takls with him but i guess there not working , i have not had a talk with him but i want to i just dont know how to come across him, i wanna know why is it that he is acting this way what could it be

my step son is almost 8 and has problems since I have known him, yours is probaly the same, he has been through a lot divorce new marriage probably some boyfriends/and girlfriends for his parents in between he is acting out for attention even if it is negative attention, he should be talked ot on his level and asked what you can all do as a team to make things better

You both sit down with him and tell him that this behavior is not acceptabl and that if there is anything bothering him he doesn't need to be scared of talking to you guys. Tell him that every time oyu get a school report and he has good grades he can have a nice present and he keeps up the bad behavior he's not only not going to get things he wants but he won't be allowed to watch TV evrynight or something that he really likes doing, and that when christmas comes he's not getting any presents because bad kids don't get christmas presents. But say it and mean it. When he asks for a toy tell him onyl when he brings his grades up, and starts behaving like a kid who deserves to get toys!
