My little sister was adopted from china when she was 2 and she is now six. My step mum still hand feeds her toddler formular out of a baby bottle and makes her wear nappies to bed every night, I know this can't be good for my sister but my step mum is a nurse so you she thinks she knows everything. I need some real facts to back me up when trying to tell her its wrong to be doing this.

  1. 3 is too old for a bottle - let alone 6!  are nappies the same as diapers? because she's too old for those too!  The only thing I can think of to tell her is that she is slowing her development - mentally and physically....unless she is drinking milk too - that formula can't be good for her digestive system in the way of it not maturing to handle other foods.

  2. Bad for teeth (the teat shape on the bottle encourages poor dental forming)

She will be at school now, the nappy thing may well be talked about at school and she will think its normal and be teased by the other children.

Maybe you should ask you mum why she thinks these things are okay, if she thinks she still would wet the bed encourage her to use an absorbent bed cover (pampers do disposable ones). And get her to check the nappy has been wet during the night to see if she really does still need it.

  3. That is totally wrong! Your child is old enough to drink in a cup! She's also old enough to be potty trained! Talk to your stepmom! That girl is not a baby!

  4. you asked this yesterday. Are you a bored kid on school holidays??

If not..nappies at night are normal at this age. Many are not night trained. As for the formula. There is nothing but comfort she would be getting from this. But your step mum is the mother not you. Leave it be

  5. Formula is suppose to be stopped at one year.

  6. it is absolutley wrong. She not a baby but a young girl and she need to be treat as a young girl. Nappies should have been stopped at night unless she is still wetting the bed and then she should be seen by a doctor to discuss methods to help treat the problem.

Bottles and formula are for babies up to a year of age and children should be weened off it after this age. I have 4 children including a7yr old and I would never treat her as a baby that is just wrong. It sounds like your step mum is having trouble excepting that her daughter is no longer a baby.

  7. The toddler formula is meant to only go up to 3 years. There are formulas for older children but the only children who really need them are ones who cannot eat and therefore have nasal gastic and gastro tubes (the tubes that feed you through either your nose or straight into your stomach.)

You didn't speicify whether your sister has any special needs. Some special needs children are still drinking out or bottles at your sisters age due to that being all they can really hold independantly (if your sister can hold the bottle she does not need to be fed it.)

Nappies at night for 6 is pretty normal. It's usually because at this age children are still wetting the bed.

  8. that is kinda bad im srry but she should have stopped feeding her formula at 1. Good luck though :]

  9. cant see the milk doing any harm but nappies at 6 yrs old?

that is wrong sounds like shes trying to keep her a baby
