Question:

My stepson just lost a baby tooth. But he had an extra piece of his gums dangling afterward. What is that?

It looked like a blood clot, but once it was dried off, it looks like a piece of his gums just hanging there. His permanent tooth is showing like it is already breaking though. Will this dangling thing eventually fall off? What is it?

  1. What is it a root that held your tooth then the baby tooth broke off.

  2. it was probably one of the roots and it should eventually go away

  3. The root on primary teeth resorb (dissolves/disappears) and thus the tooth becomes lose and falls out.  Wait for the permanent tooth to erupt and see what happens to the piece of tissue you are referring to.  If it is bothering your stepson, take him to your dentist and they can numb him up and remove the tissue.  No matter what, just relax as this is not uncommon.
