My subwoofer stops playing when I turn up volume or when playing some songs with heavy bass?

I always have to turn the car off and wait like 10 seconds and start the car again to get my sub working...

i have a 2000 watt (600 W rms) subwoofer powered by a 1200 watt (550 rms) amp. I have wired everything by myself and everything was wired as it should be. except the REM turn on wire.. " i instead used the 12 v battry power both for the REM turn on bolt and +power for the amp. i used an 8 gauge wire.

My sub works fine but d bass is not as loud as it should be.and when i turn the source volume up it gets louder , but above some level d subwoofer starts to produce some sound (sounds like it is being overpushed and is about to blow) and it turns off if i don decrease the volume .

my subwoofers are two 10" sony xplod subs 1000 watt each combined in one big box... the combined rms is 600 w...

you can look @ the suboowfer @ http://www.xplodsony.com/product/print/X...

the amp is a 1200 watt sony xplode mono d block amp with 550 rms power...model no XM-D9001GTR.

  1. Definitely upgrade the wire to 4 Gauge and make sure the ohms match like 2ohm to 2ohm or 4ohm to 4ohm like the guy said up there and yea, the subs are probably pulling to much when i had my 2 tens i had 500 watts wired with 12 gauge wire BIG PROBLEM, i had the same problem you did. So upgrade the wire and try that.

  2. The cause of the problem is not enough power to your subs... The subs are draining more power from the amp than it can supply and when the volume gets higher the sub want more power and the amp cant handle it so it goes into protect mode.  You may want to buy a bigger wiring kit and make sure your amp and subs mate 4ohm to 4ohm to 2 ohm to 2 ohm.  You can also get a cap for it that really helps a lot.

  3. The only thing i can think of is that you have the subs wired in series when they should be wired in parallel.  With them in series, ur amp is seeing an 8 ohm load and it cannot supply enough power to the subs with that much resistance.  If you wire them in parallel, u should have no power issues and they should run good because the amp will see only a 2 ohm load.  You should upgrade to 4 guage wire also
