Question:

My sump pump sounds like it is ready to die. Is this something I can replace or do I need a professional?

It is 7 years old and very early this spring, we woke up to the sound of it running but no water was escaping because the line was blocked with ice. We had to unplug it to get it to stop trying to pump, clear the ice, and plug it back in. We have no idea how long it ran that night before we woke up, but ever since then it sounds absolutely terrible...very loud...and so I am afraid it will fail but I really don't know if this is something the average homeowner can do (I have a very handy husband) or if I need to call a professional.

  1. If he can get to it its no big deal except the cost of a new one.

  2. When you have some tools your husband can do it, and if necessary ask a friend to help.
