My sun conure opened his cage and flew out the sliding glass door well he ended up flying across the street and into someones forty foot tree, they let me in the backyard to call him and see if he would come down but, he is too scared and won't come back down. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions in how to get him out of the tree it is dark and starting to rain. btw he is pretty far up in the tree or climbing up there or using a ladder is not an option.

  1. I would have to agree with heart o' gold. Put the cage near the tree. I've had conures, cockatiels and love birds that stayed a night or two outside and came back to their cages.

  2. try some birdie treats.  leave a window open in case he flies back.

i wish you the best of luck!!

  3. Do you have treats or food that he likes? Do you think you could lure him down with those?

  4. Get your birds favourite things then it might come down.

  5. My peach faced love bird did the same thing a few days ago.  Only difference is Pretty Bird has been outside quite a bit so he wasn't quite so scared.  He was so far up in the tree I could hardly make him out.  My bird has a favorite sound that always brings him flying.  He likes the farting noise or if you say "SHHHHHHHH" like you are telling him to be quiet.  He can't resist he has to come and see.  He also likes the sound of a bag of chips being opened.  The last one is how my boyfriend got him to come out of the tree.  Randy got Pretty Birds food bag which sounds like a bag of chips and rattled it and he came right down to him.  I have him trained to come to a whistle too but I couldn't find the whistle.  I hope you are able to get your bird... it is not a good feeling to loose one.  Good Luck!

  6. Birds are creatures of habit, and if he's scared what he probably really wants is his cage.  Get his cage as close to him as you possibly can and he may get into it.  Obviously you'll want to do this in a really safe way, if you drop the cage you may have an even bigger problem.

If he ends up spending the night in the tree, you'll want to make sure he is safe from racoons or other animals, you could leave lights and/or radio out there.  Also, you'll want to be out there with his cage as soon as it starts to get light in the morning.

    Good luck!

  7. mine got out once.i had to wait in till another breese came along strong enough to blow him out the tree, the fireman couldent be contacted and i dont evem know if they would help its not like the old days any more .when i got him back i trimed his wings hope you get yours back then trim the wings just the primarys

  8. Id pray, try the cage trick (almost worked for me once with a budgie...) and if he comes lower have a bed sheet ready to throw over him. Its not too heavy and will help you catch him. Just make SURE you wont just frighten him off further... Hope all works out
