ok wel iv had it since june, and a few months ago a rock broke a hole in the tail, down to the foam. it wasnt major, so i drained it for a few days and patched it up with resin which took 3 minutes to dry in the sun. iv had to re-patch it up twice, because tiny air bubbles keep bursting in the resin. it's gotten way heavier than it used to be, even though i stand it up to let it drain after surfing. i cant find any other dings other than that one, and there's no discolouration. what the h**l??

  1. It's cheeper and less stinky(resin) to have a professional fix it rather than to have to buy a new board becasuse of poor repairs.

  2. Refix it with fiberglass cloth.  Suncure works okay for somethings but for deep dings you need a better repair job.  If you're not sure how spend the 30 bucks and have a shop fix it for you.

  3. It also sounds the resin dried way too quickly. maybe you had too much hardener, this could cause pin holes.

    goodluck

  4. did you use fiberglass to patch up the hole, if you didn't then the resin you have used is letting in the water, the only way to fix it is sand away old resin and fix it back up with fiber glass and resin and make sure there is no air bubbles, if unsure just take it to a ding repair shop, you'll probably be laughed at but they will sort it out

  5. you probably fixed it using sun cure, which is a temporary fix for a permanent problem. the board is gaining weight becuase the foam is absorbing the water. have a ding repair guy fix it (most surf shops have "the best" guy). or do it yourself.don't forget to  cut out the sun cure and take off any dameaged glass. you want to really open it up to let some of that water evap out. good luck bro

  6. try taking it in to a ding repair shop, and ask about your problem. the tiny ding could be professionally reapaired for 20 bucks, and they could maybe find more dings. try looking under the traction pad or stomp pad.

  7. If your board is an epoxy board, small dings that are not patched correctly could be major since epoxy boards suck water faster and in larger quantities than a regular board.  If it is an epoxy board, take it to a surf shop and have them repair it,  BUT, ask them what to do the next time that you have a ding so this doesn't happen again.

If it is a non-epoxy board, and you want your board to get back to be around its original weight, you may have to cut the soaked area out like a piece of a pie and replace it with a piece of scrap foam that you can get from a surf shop and glass it back again.  If this sounds difficult to do, take it to a shop for repair.

By the sound of things, I'm guessing that you have an epoxy board.  Non-epoxy boards don't absorb water to the point that it is "way heavier" than its original weight.  If it is a non-epoxy board, you may have low density foam with light glassing used for boards for professional surfers, in which case you must accept the consequences of dings on that type of board and a short board life.

In either case, bring it to a surf shop and see.  Good luck.
