Question:

My surround sound system works with regular cable and my PS3, but not with HDTV. Do I need to buy something?

I set up my Pansonic receiver and ran the test and all the speakers are hooked up correctly. When I use the Playstation 3 or just the regular cable, it works fine. However, when I switch over to component mode where the HD cables are plugged in, sound only comes out of the right front speaker. I can switch it over to the SFC modes (party, hall, live, etc.) and then sound comes out of all the speakers, but when I go back to surround sound it still only comes out the right front speaker. Help!

  1. u have to have 2 hdmi cables, 1 going from the tv to the cable or satalite box, one going from the tv to the audio reciver, make sure ur on the right tuner chanel (ex: tv/sat, dvd, video 1,2,3 ect.)make sure ur on the right somponent on the tv, hope i helped if u need anything else email me(:

  2. You will neet to connect a digital audio cable from either the TV or your set-top box to your receiver. This will give you 5.1 DD audio; however, not all channels broadcast in 5.1 all the time.

  3. In theory HDMI cables are for video AND audio, but in practice many lower cost receivers can pass thru audio via HDMI to the TV, but do not take audio from them. I don't know your Panasonic, but I've seen this happening to mid range Onkyos (Onkyos with full featured HDMI switching connection were much more expensive).

If this is the case, add an optical audio cable connection from the cable box to the receiver.

  4. is the channel your watching broadcasting in 5.1 surround sound?
