My swamp cooler fills the house with a fishy smell when its off?

It stinks what can i do to make it not stink lol. I heard getting like burning oil and putting it in the water so it blows out a good smell. How would i do that and/or what else can i do to make it not smell so bad,,,

its bad Fabreeze and my glade plug in isnt enve covering it up

Why wouldn't it smell when its running?

Maybe the culprit is elsewhere.

You need to clean it out and change the water filters.

There is a mix you can buy that you pour in it to clean the filters and it freshens the smell. They sell it at Home Depot.
