My swimcap, which I use on a daily basis, ( I swim in a pool) has gotten dirty on the inside..It is like a black substance that almost looks like mold but isnt.. When I try to clean it off, it doesnt clean.... What causes this? Again, I am using a silicone cap

  1. one of my silicone caps got like that too.

i'm pretty sure it's from not drying it out after i'm finished.

i think it's some kind of fungus or something.

i would just throw it out and get a new cap...that's what i did at least.

  2. It is some type of mold/fungus. I get that all the time.

You need to rinse your cap with tap water and dry it off each time you use it. Dont listen to these other people you dont need to get rid of it. Try cleaning it with soap and a rough object and scrubing hard. Hope you can get it off

  3. That is interesting.  It may be some sort of growth. If not mold maybe a fungus.  I recommend to my swimmers that they dry their caps after each use and dust them with a little bit of baby powder to remove all the moisture.  This helps them last longer.

  4. Are you certain it isn't mold?

It may be time for a new cap...

Unless it is some sort of chemical reaction between the poolwater and the silicone cap, my only other guess would be mold or someother bacteria..

  5. if you dye your hair, it could be the color
