Ian used to say all kinds of words...bye bye, dog, cat, mama, dada, baba, hi, thank you..on and on...

but lately he hasn't been saying many words...just a ton of bables (no no ma ma and dada are still used daily) ... just wondering if it's normal. I think he might just be focusing on trying to walk instead of trying to talk now, but curious...

did your little one verbally regress around 1 year old? Thanks!

  1. I think the guy above is BSing you for Best answer, but I dunno whats going on. Just though I would point that out.

  2. I think it's normal. My aunt said that happened to my cousin when he was little (I'm not sure what age he was). She was worried & took him to the doctor & the doctor asked him why he wasn't saying much. He told the doctor, " Cuz I don't got nothin to say".  My aunt felt stupid then but the doctor thought it was funny!

  3. Sometimes that will happen. As a child is becoming more aware of language production they begin to process phrases and learn to pronounce sounds correctly. During that time the regression is just a process of listening and noticing they are not saying things the way "adults" are. I think is is normal and when he does begin to speak more again, it will likely be in 2-3 words phrases..so be ready! If he does not start talking in 2-3 word phrases by 1.5 - 2yrs take him to an Speech Pathologist in your area to get tested.

  4. it's normal. he probably is trying to talk faster because he might have heard a person talk very fast. but, it's probably not that. all babies do it.

  5. When we learn a second or a third language, we all go through a silent period because we are trying to process the vocabulary and how to make phrases.  Babies migh also go through the silent period becuase they are learning a language even if its the first one.
