  1. she isn't sick. when she feels threatened, she rubs it off, it causes enemy eyes to burn. don't worry, its fine.

  2. She's probably not sick.

When tarantulas feel threatened-they'll rub off the hair, and try to put it on whoever is bothering them. It's an irritant, and will burn.

Just make sure that no one is tapping on the glass or bothering her on purpose-that can stress them out and make them sick.

    Good luck

  3. I don't know what species it is, but I am going to guess a chilean rose.  All species of tarantulas from the new world (The Americas) possess specialized hairs called Urticating hairs that they can kick off to fend off any mammals, reptiles, or birds that might attack it, and they can kill a mouse with them.  These hairs are said to feel like fiberglass and can severely irritate the skin or cause nasty damage if they get in the nose, eyes, or throat.  Different genera have different types of hairs.  In chilean roses, they are not bad, but some people can be sensitive to them.  In some of the larger South American species, the hairs can be much worse.

These hairs are also loosely attached, and can fall off or be rubbed off easily.  Since tarantula hairs don't grow like mammal hairs do, the spider will have to wait until it's next molt to be fully loaded with them again.  Your tarantula is fine.

  4. it can be from kicking hairs. mine tends to go bald in a small circle on her abdomen in the weeks before she moults though. so it could be that.
