  1. You do need to pay them, depending on the state you are in, most of the time you will pay them at closing out of the proceeds of the sale. To get a better answer call a title company or real estate attorney in your area to answer your question.  In the end you will be the one paying the taxes.


  2. You'll pay them one way or another.  Any unpaid taxes will be deducted from the seller's proceeds at closing.  The taxes will be apportioned between the buyer and seller as of the closing date but anything that is due or past due now will be deducted from seller's proceeds.

  3. The buyer will insist that you pay them up to date through the date of sale.

Yes.  Until you actually close on the house, the taxes are your responsibility.  What will happen is that the title company, when they do closing costs, will  prorate the payment, so that you will really only pay for the time you spent in the house for the tax year and the buyer will pay the rest.
