My teacher?

I go to a small christian school where the principal is also the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teacher. He is also our P.E. teacher. We have a 20 minute break in the morning and during that everyone is supposed to take 5 laps around the track, and then at our second break after lunch we have to run 5 more (if we don't have PE, if we do we have to run 6 laps and PE is 3 times a week) and if we misbehave we have run even MORE. Does anybody feel my pain and think this is a bit much? the track is about an eighth of a mile long. We spend the majority of our breaks when we should be resting, running. Every other school ive ever been to we just had PE one time a week and we didnt have run at all our breaks..

  1. Kind of an overkill on the fitness.  But it's not such a bad idea, considering around 70% of Americans are fat and don't exercise.  I don't see any bad coming out of this.  I bet most of you kids there are in pretty good shape.  ;)

  2. That's really not very much. However, running for punishment is stupid. But 5 laps in 20 minutes? In 6th grade, we had to run 10 laps in 30 minutes. And our track is a fourth of a mile long.

  3. thats nothing, you are way overdramatic

  4. not the least bit.  Kids are getting pudgier each year, and the fact that you still have P.E. is wonderful since schools tend to cut PE, art, and music at the first sign of financial problems.  In HS, we had to run more when we did poorly in softball.  This is all good for you.  Which is worse.....running a little more than you think necessary or encouraging childhood obesity?

  5. I think thats too much have u tried faking it like u have asthma or something

  6. It does seem excessive but it is one which will benefit you.  Physical fitness and a strong heart are as important to your adult life as anything you may learn from a book.  Take it from someone who is out of shape.... habits you learn today will last a lifetime.   You should challenge your teacher to run WITH you.

  7. What your teacher is doing may seem a bit harsh.

But please remember that many states have legislation about how many minutes of PE time students have.  During that time, students are supposed to be engaged in active, monitored activities that get the heart rate up.  Your teacher may simply be trying to meet your state's guidelines.

  8. At my school we had gym every day for 45 minutes but they shouldn't have you run they should at least let you walk do they count your laps for you

  9. that is a lot of running maybe hes just a health nut and wants you guys to be healthy. I have pe every day and we run the mile on thursday thats it. if your school has a school board thing tell one of your parents to get involved and bring up the subject.

  10. I do not want to hear complaining. I run at least 4 miles a day in school and more on the days I do have PE, which is every other day. I would say you guys are lucky but I like running

  11. wow. thats a lot of running. i bet your whole scholl is in shape

  12. sounds like your principal is doing you a big favor.  ideally there would be other choices for physical activity for those who weren't really into running, but certainly all that exercise will serve you well in the long term (and the short-term as well.  did you know that exercise improves academic performance?).
