  1. absolutely....because then your not getting enough information from the class to pass...why skip class anyways?

ps...if your in highschool and u wanna go to college...the colleges will look at your attendance, and if you dont have the greatest attendance, they may not take you, so think about that next time you miss class for no reason (if its a valid reason thats different)

  2. Yes... legally the teacher is not depriving you of your constitutional rights. If they suspend you for more than 10 days for being late 20 times.. then you can argue against it, however lowering your grades is acceptable punishment.

    GET TO SCHOOL ON TIME.

  3. Yes.

  4. My pet peeve is late students especially if they are disruptive when they come in OR if they ask questions that I have already answered during the time they were gone--either of me OR their classmates who were there. Certainly I understand the occasional tardy (especially when the student comes in quietly & is respectful of their fellow students), but 20!!

As annoying as it is, I wouldn't take points off class grades unless it is for lack of "class participation" (not all teachers have that as part of the grade).  I probably would have called home after 10 to talk with parents to see if there could be some way to make sure you could be in class on time or if it would be better to drop the course.  If everyone came in late 20 times, the class would be chaos.

  5. Yes, and he should.  If you can't get your butt to class in time then there are consequences.

  6. i don't think so....

but 20 is alot of tardys... im late all the time to my classes and the most i had was 15... so it really shouldn't be an issue

  7. You mean the grades of the entire class? Actually, I doubt he could lower the grades of students that are on time. That would he a difficult one to get away with. If you mean YOUR grades for being late 20 times, heck yes he can!

  8. I has to be in the STUDENT HANDBOOK. Can he do it? Yeah, but, you'd have a case if he didn't apply it evenly. IE making it only apply to you.

He is in charge of grading, but can only do what the handbook allows.

  9. i think so, because 20 is a lot of tardies which means class time missed

  10. Yep

  11. Yes he can...and should.

You miss information when you are not there.  Also, when you come in late, you disrupt the rest of the class.

You need to learn to be punctual.  If you were reporting late to work 20 times, you would be fired, not be able to pay your rent, end up homeless...

Being in your seat, on time, ready to learn, is part of the lesson.

  12. No - it's illegal

  13. sure can if its in the school's policy.

  14. Generally speaking the teacher is in charge of the class and the grade policy, as long as it is in line with the school handbook.

If this happens and it affects YOUR grade, then I'm sure there is some appeals process.

  15. Are you talking about lowering the ENTIRE classes grades if there are more than 20 tardies total? Or something along the lines of punishing the whole class for some student's tardies?

If that's the case.....PROBABLY not. Depends on your school and state policies.

If it's just for your own tardies, and your own grade....ABSOLUTELY. He can and SHOULD lower your grade if you're late that much.

It's called factoring attendance into your grade.
