Question:

My teen daughter is puking and my dog is puking too. Is there a connection or just coincidental?

This is strange, because 4 days ago I took one of our 3 dogs (Mom, Chi and 2 pups, pompoochi 8 mo. old) to the Vets after a night of vomiting. Parvo test was inconclusive (not a sure positive reading). The Vet. said that there wasn't anything to do other then, hook the dog up an IV of sugar/ sodium water and watch, hope for the best of a 50/50 chance of survival. Needless to say, I couldn't afford to leave my dog for the 3 night stay at the expense of a months rent. The list of items that the Vet. wanted to give me was going to cost about $3-4 hundred to 'treat' at home.

Mind you, for them to tell me that there wasn't anything they could do with out more cash up front, they took my $120. for NOTHING. Oh, but they did tell me "Good Luck".

My daughter and I came home crying and very up set. I began to read everything I could find on the subjust of vomiting pet and the next afternoon the dog was fine, we bleached everything and separated the dogs from each other. This dog is fine now, having been treated with "plenty of fluids", ie. Pedialyte followed by boiled chicken and white rice.

NOW... this morning I have BOTH my teen daughter and her pup puking! Does anyone have any idea what is happening to us?

Any GOOD Vets. out? I'm in L.A. Ca.

  1. food poisoning? did you feed your dog something off the table? Or it might be stress. but it's most likely just a coincidence.

  2. That happened to me too, my puppy had parvo so he threw up alot. so i really felt sick and i was throwing up too. Idk why. But i loved the pup :(

  4. Well, I can't tell you for sure what it is without examining your dogs but if it is Parvo then yes there can be a connection as humans can catch parvo from canines.

Infected dogs are usually asymptomatic. Clinical disease may be triggered by stress and clinical signs may be exacerbated by concurrent opportunistic pathogens (eg, e. coli and various parasites). Diagnosis is based on an appropriate history and clinical signs and confirmed by a positive fecal ELISA or hemagglutination test.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

  5. Actually there are a couple of  things that COULD be both human and dog - I always spell it wrong - it's camphobacter or could be Corona (here is a fact sheet)

There is also a vaccination resistant form of Parvo out there too.

  7. maybe it could be something with the water in the area...

do they both drink tap water? i would try to ask around in your neighborhood to see if this is also happening to other dogs or people. it wouldn't hurt :)

  8. I don't think we're qualified to deal with this.

I don't know if your daughter is puking because she's upset or because she's got food poisoning, or because she's sick.

The treatment by Pedialyte and boiled chicken and rice was excellent.

Since the cost is a problem, I'll attach some  links to online vet chat websites, and hopefully, with the information above (which is pretty thorough), you might be given an answer that will help  -!-

  9. Well, most likely it's just coincidence. But you should probably just call a doctor and ask (rather than taking her in) and they'll usually tell you. Um, I had a pup with parvo once and what we did with him was having him drink gatorade. I know it's odd, but it's the only thing he would eat or drink. Amazingly it worked. He lived several more years. You could try it diluting it a bit with water. Just a thought. Good luck with all of this. (Right, like you wanna hear THAT again)
