He has to stay behind at school tonight so he will be without food right until he gets home, I cant get up to the school so I 4nd them to see if there was anyway he would be able to borrow some funds to buy some lunch and would return it tomorrow.. I was told the school dont have the facility to loan money ? He is staying behind to help out at school and they cant help get his lunch..I think its terrible does anyone agree?

  1. That really is terrible :\

They should be able to give him a meal without loaning out money and you could pay it back the next day

That must be some sort of rule to not provide children with lunch if they accidently forget theres like your son.

Phone back angrily and say you'll complain?

    that may work.

  2. This sound like something you might want to bring up at the next PTO meeting. This is very disappointing. Nevertheless, I pray he will be okay. As long as he don't have any medical conditions that will be worsen by this.

  3. Er...hold on........ Up for head boy and can't even remember his lunch............

Not the best advert for a head boy, is it ! It's a good job he won't starve to death in the matter of a few hours even if he DOES have no lunch !

  4. What country are you in?  In the UK the school has a duty of care to ensure your child has sustenance at lunchtime.  If they're not prepared to do this I'd raise it as an issue - this situation shouldn't arise.

  5. Teenage boys are pretty resourceful - I'm sure he'll either manage to borrow some money from a friend, or share their lunch ... and if he doesn't, well, a day without food is not going to kill him, and he might remember his lunch next time!  I'd be more concerned if it were a five year old who forgot his lunch - but a teenager? He'll be hungry when he gets home, but that's the worst that will happen.  Don't worry.

  6. yes I agree! at least they should have sorted him out something to eat from the cafeteria or something!!

  7. That is ridiculous, obviously the people that have commented so rudely don't have children or a maternal instinct for them!

I would complain to the head of the school, also ring them up and complain that you are going to take them to OFSTED i bet this gets him a free school meal or some money, in either case they could give him a free meal like the polish and foreigners get and also the children who's parent either don't work or don't earn enough to provide lunch for them!

i wouldn't let my child help out again if this is the thanks he get

    thanks and good luck

  8. Sounds silly to me - all round!

  9. As long as your son has friends (h**l, even an acquaintance or two), he'll be fine. Friends share food all the time. Relax.

Even if he doesn't get any food for the day, he'll be fine. Hungry, but fine.

  10. Phone them back - they should be able to allow him a school dinner. Either that or he'll have to borrow money/ food/ both from his mates, or he could try asking his form tutor or head of year or a fave teacher.

  11. yes i do!! how ridiculous!!

instead of loaning money why can't they give him a school meal???

    i would phone them back!

  12. i know he forgot his lunch and that is sad but think about it from the school.  Lost of kids forget their lunch or lunch money those who don't qualify for free lunch. Then the school needs to loan them all money and you know most people won't repay it.They would loose money. They just can't do it

  13. If he's up for headboy I'm sure he's old enough to manage for himself for one day, even if that means digging into his own pocket for some food, or asking a friend. Don't worry, he'll be fine.

It's unfortunate, I wouldn't go so far as to say its terrible, but if you forget your lunch you can go hungry, bet he won't be so forgetful next time!

I don't see a huge problem here, unless he's diabetic or something, or perhaps has an exam or some important assessed work to do, because in that case it could affect your performance.

  14. Most schools have an emergency fund for just such occasions - my old school used to lend 50p ( it was several years ago) - but not if this was repeated or the loan had not been repaid. Perhaps a lunch token so that it could only be used in the school canteen. I suggest you write directly to the head/chair of governors.

  15. Ya, thats really terrible, Which school is that, since he is helping the school they must provide him foods. Thats not fair anyway. Please next time dont let your son to help such a school.

  16. i was about to be outraged and then i realised you said TEENAGE son, jeez i know mother's worry but calm down he will actually manage one day without some food without starving to death. besides if he's gonna be headboy surely he's got mates that can spot him a few quid or half a sarnie. i'm not at all suprised that the school didn't lend him any money why should they. not exactly the crime i thought it was - i assumed we were referring to a boy at primary school!!

do you know how many kids go without lunch by just spending their money on more important things like cds or cigarettes? the only thing that's terrible here is your bLATANT OVERREACTION!

  17. duh

  18. He's a teenager, not five! Why did you even phone the school? Good grief, let him grow up and have some responsibility. Up for head boy...so he's one of the oldest in the school. Fifteen, is he? Seventeen?

He forgot his lunch; let him figure it out. It won't kill him to go hungry, or to have half a sandwich from each of three or four friends, or to borrow the change they have left over after they've bought their meals. He's YEARS beyond this being the school's responsibility.
