i got braces when i was in 5th grade and now I'm going into 8th grade.. i had them on for so long because we had a-lot of problems getting to the optments becuase we switched places, and where busy during most of the time i had to go, so i was always re-schudualing. My teeth seem really yellow to me, my orthidontist says i have to brush better, but sometime i feel like my gums are going to fall off i brush so hard and in detail. I'm scared that when i get off my braces, my teeth will be yellow in the outside, but where the brackets were, it will be whiter there.. anybody had that happen to them before, or know if that can happen or not?!

  1. yes its very difficult to brush when youve got braces, just do the best you can and dont forget to floss

you shouldnt have white spots when your braces come off. when they come off you may notice yellow stains, these stains are actually just the glue thats been left on your teeth. dont worry- just book an appt to see your dentist and theyll take it off for you! i never botghered using any fancy whitening system, i just got that glued removed and now my teeth are perfectly fine!

DONT BRUSH SO HARD: this can cause your gumline to recede, creating a funny looking, un even gumline!!!

only use a soft or medium tooth brush and DONT brush hard! even if you havea  soft brush, that doesnt mean you have to brush harder. try brushing in circular motions, and be gentle!!

  2. do a whitenening

  3. I had braces when I was in 9th-10th grade...now I did not have them on as long as you have...but I knew/know PLENTY of people that had braces on for many years. I was super concerned about this also, so I took really good care of my teeth.

I'm not going to lie to you...there IS the possibility that there will be yellow on the outside of where the braces squares were. I have personally seen it.

Now, you have to remember, our teeth do change colors according to what we eat and our health. There are ways to fix it, though. If you drink things that are dark colored, such as sodas, coffees, teas, ice tea, etc..you're running the risk of discoloring your teeth. If your unhealthy (like you don't drink enough water or you eat poorly) that has an effect too.

Don't brush so hard...it can do more harm than good.

Brush regularly (2-3 times a day, or after eating) with a good toothbrush. Use mouthwash to kill all those bacteria too. Don't forget to floss!

If you're really concerned about the color of your teeth you can do this:

Mix a little baking soda (maybe a teaspoon) with a little hydrogen peroxide (the 3% kind you can buy at the store) into a workable paste (not thick) and brush that into your teeth but rinse REALLY WELL! It doesn't taste that great...but whitening products contain both of those ingredients. Do this once a day (preferably before bed) and you'll see your teeth whiten pretty soon. The best part is, it doesn't harm your braces as long as your sure to rinse and it's cheap!!

    Hope this helped!

  4. I am 25 and you can still kinda see where my brackets were. Although it seems I am the only one who notices.
