My test came back from the Alpha- fetoprotein test.. Please read?

They said my levels where high. So when there high it means theres a increased risk for some type of birth defect but noy downs right? Has anyone else been through this? She said my numbers were 1 in 12. Im so nervous please help

There are huge numbers of false positives on those tests.  I had a false positive myself with one of my pregancies (the baby was totally healthy).  Your doctor will probably do further testing which will likely set your mind at ease, or in the worst case give you better information.

Your child may have a some kind of mental retardation syndrome. My aunt's baby was the same way..

Yes it could be Downs Syndrome but it also could be Spina Bifida or Anacephaly. It could be nothing at all.

The best person to ask would be your doctor. If your levels are higher than normal s/he might want to do more extensive testing. An amnio maybe.
