We have telescopes that can spot rocks the size of marbles on Mars, so why can't the people that run the traffic signals at busy intersections spot gridlock?

  1. i agree its stupdi and if we can spot rocks on mars why can we not spot the correct weather coming our way on the correct day not estimating it might rain :)

  2. i can tell you are bored

  3. Sorry, a sensible answer, but the best telescopes we have on earth at the moment can't even resolve detail on the moon well enough to spot the lunar landers we sent there in the Apollo missions...so no marbles on Mars I'm afraid...that's why we sent the rovers all that way... ;)

Impatient idiots, I'm afraid, won't ever be able to see beyond the end of their own noses...

  4. yep your bored !!

  5. doh that what trafic new is there for

  6. I didn't know that there WERE people who run traffic signals.

I though they just installed them and then hoped for the best.

  7. Not silly a good idea but probably too costly unless they can recoup the costs by way of fines for some new or old offences

  8. your making me bored

  9. Ha ha!  Good one.  Well they can actually.  The Engineers who set up the lights actually do a decent job - but it's hard to plan for bad behavior by drivers.

A retired highway engineer once told me this about freeways (as an example): If everyone drove the designated speed limit and left the proper driving distance, minimized lane changes and were actually polite to each other when merging, there would never be a traffic jam.

Same with lights - if people on their dang cell phone would plan ahead and avoid getting caught in the intersection it would help a lot.

Also consider the broader systemic - if all we do is build roads and streets for cars and don't support alternative modes of transportation - well there's just going to be more and more and more and more...

Often our growth in traffic outpaces the design of our trans system...

  10. Because they can't make the right decisions quick enough. Hense the Big Bang effect that usually happens in intersections...

  11. yes you sound fed up go get a hobby then you will be so busy with that the time will fly by so fast you wouldnt believe how quick time goes .

  12. Don`t be so silly, there are no traffic lights on mars, or at least I don`t think there are.

  13. Oh it's simple.  People who use telescopes to spot rocks the size of marbles on Mars are usually intelligent people and suffer from far less ignorance then idiots on the road these days who don't know the following.

A:  What a yellow box is for.

B:  What lane to be in on a round about.

    C:  What a turn signal/indicator is for.

D:  Green means go, Red means stop, Yellow does not mean GO FASTER!

  14. Because no one "runs" traffic signals.  It's computerized.  But that would be a great idea.

  15. Because traffic control people are robots that want us to kill each other because of boredom. You can find all this out and more if you go on www.iaskstupidquestions.org.uk

  16. omg u must be really bored jus like me lool

  17. Generally speaking, telescopes are manned by people who are intelligent, caring, and meticulous.  They are actively searching for something besides the minute hand on their watch.

People running traffic signals, not so much.

  18. hahahaa... soooo true.... also... they can send a man to the moon and back... and yet.. the guys at peugeot cant fix my car...
