Question:

My throat really really hurts, what could this be a symptom of?

Since yesterday morning my throat has really been bothering me. It's gotten worse as time goes by, and it really hurts to swallow. I even lost my voice for a short period of time today. I cough frequently, and the coughing hurts my throat even more. My stomach had a sharp pain for about 10 seconds, but went away shortly after, could this be related or just cramps? Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch!

  1. You need to see your doctor. In the meantime drink warm fluids and gargle a few times a day with a glass of water with one teaspoon of salt. It will help with the pain (don't swallow it).

  2. Do you get gastric reflux ?  Do you burp allot ?  Does your throat get that dry that it feels like it has been cut ?

If you have answered yes to all of the above then I would say that the 2 are related.  It's not a cold or strep throat; it's GERD.  Google it.  Then see your doctor.

  3. Sounds like strep throat. I used to get all the time when I was in high school. If it gets worst go to the doctor and they will take a long Q-tip thing touch of the back of your throat with it and then give you medicine for it and by the end of the day you should feel relief. You could also Tylenol Cool Burst for sore throat it numbs the pain.

  4. maybe cough & common cold symptoms, with fever, pain and swollen. I f you feel more than 3 days...maybe plus infection, so you need antibiotic, pain killer like acetaminopen/tylenol, antitusive....consult your doctor

  5. Tonsilitis or mono..........I would say strep throat but strep throat doesn't have symptoms like coughing

  6. Sore throat = infection.  Whether it's bacterial or viral, probably only your Dr. could tell you..
