My tire size on my bike says 26 x 2.10. I need to change the inertubes but I bought 26 x 1 3/8 ...?

  1. Cycle guy is correct. The tube is too small. If it was close you could get away with it but it's far too small. Tubes are not made to be blown up like a balloon, but to be supported in the tire.

    If this were not true then why would they make appropriate sizes if they weren't needed - chew on that.

  3. The smaller tubes will work just fine. I expect the inflation pressure you use is probably around 50psi/3.5bar more or less. This would NOT cause the tube to explode as the previous poster implies unless there is a defect. A normal size standard for a 26 inch tube is 1.5 to 2.0 inches. You're pushing the tolerances a very little but still within the design margin of the tube. It's always prudent to keep a close eye on your tire pressures.

  4. no it's not OK. Those tubes are quite a bit too small. if you don't pop the tube while filling it, you'll get a flat soon.
