My toilet intake pipe is leaking very slightly at floor level, just enough to make a few drops travel along the grout lines of my tile floor. As an added note, I live on the 3rd floor. I checked the upper part of the tubing and it is always dry, all the way up to the bottom of the tank. I want to try to fix this myself or have my bro-in-law help me.

This is similar to how mine looks:

Detailed instructions please!

  1. The cover is called an escutcheon. The stop needs replaced.

You risk flooding your unit and the entire building if you do not do this properly. It is not worth the risk, please hire a professional plumber.

I have seen many homes ruined when these blow off, don't learn the hard way.

  2. is it above or below the tap? use 2 spanners / wrenches 1 either side of the tap and tighten up, this prevents damage to the flexi hose.

  3. I know that you were trying to be thorough, but you still havent given me enough info.. so I have questions and and I will try to help.

    1) Is the line to your tank Flexible?  ( if it is, replace it with another.. But after you remove the tube apply teflon- its plumbers tape)

    2) if it isnt flexible ( solid tube) very carefully remove the tubing from the faucet (has a turn k**b located below the tubing)  and apply teflon. Two or three rounds will do. Dont over do it because this can cause a leak also.

    3) you will need a small pipe wench or a crescent wrench.. if you dont have these Home Depot does. Make sure that you dont use anything larger than a six inch wrench.

    4) you may want to also check that the faucet is tight, for this you will need a phillips head screwdriver, (#2) only turn as it will, do not overtighten, snug will be fine. I hope this does the job.

    5) Happy Memorial Day!
